Swedish Vs. Deep Tissue

Oftentimes, people get Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage confused. As two of the more popular and common massage styles, it’s understandable why this happens; however, there are some key differences between the two massage styles that are undeniable.  Most notably, a Deep Tissue Massage uses more pressure than a Swedish Massage. Because the former is meant to stimulate the sub-layer of musculature and fascia, stronger and deeper pressure needs to be applied to reach these muscles.


As a result of this more intense pressure, a Deep Tissue Massage can be a slightly uncomfortable yet rewarding experience. A Swedish massage, on the other hand, is all about relaxation and reducing muscle tension through careful strokes and gentle kneading. Keep in mind that a Swedish Massage can still result in a significant reduction in tension and discomfort; however, if you’re struggling with more pronounced muscle injuries and discomfort then a Deep Tissue Massage might be more appropriate.
